Happy Halloween and a look back on horror month

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Even Haru's are festive

Well, Halloween is here, and with that comes an end to horror month here at -1 Credit(s).  Overall I thought it went quite well and I think it will come back again next year.  There were a few things that could have made it better, if there was more posts and stuff done is one big thing.  Though there was a lot covered as is, since I took the time to talk about the lighter side, which I think gets overlooked a lot.

I’m not going to go on forever about it though, it is time to move on.  What the next 7 weeks will follow a lot is development stuff for my midterm class, which is making a game.  So expect to see a lot of stuff on that, then more or less working on a norm for the blog which is mostly thoughts on random anime and video games.

Either way there is a lot of stuff coming so look forward to it.  Also happy Halloween, enjoy whatever you are doing, maybe watching some horror anime, playing some horror video games.  The new Castlevania did come along with Fallout 3 which I will be playing today.

So many jokes I could point out, I won't make them though

Let’s rant about Horror Anime

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

This is also known as I don’t have anything planned because I have been busy with stuff and things. So, I thought I would look up a list of horror anime and pick one to write about that I know a bit about. After looking around for a bit I noticed the genera is so ill defined, and just about everything is thrown in there, and some things are not even though shows like it are. So as the title suggests, this is all about talking about these errors and things like that, so onward!

Decap Attack: A horror game that didn’t start out as one

Friday, October 24th, 2008

When horror month started we took a look at the lighter side of horror with the SNES/Genesis classic Zombies Ate My Neighbors. Then we went into the more mature side with Clock Tower and Perfect Blue. So I’m going to take it back to the lighter side with the little known game Decap Attack. The game didn’t even start off as a horror game either, so how did this happen? Find out after the more thing (oh yes thats right I just built suspense).

Perfect Blue: This was suppost to be a Boogiepop Phantom post

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

As the title says, this was going to be a Boogiepop Phantom post, until I started watching it and realized I’m not going to make sense out of it fast enough to even do a post on it. So instead of just doing another video game post I saw Perfect Blue on wiki or something, and then remembered that that movie is quite horror and stuff, so why not do that. I have only watched this twice now, and I should have really watched it a few more times, because just like Boogiepop it is a bit confusing; though that is a plus if you ask me.

Clock Tower: SNES Surivial Horror, randomly awesome

Friday, October 17th, 2008

All right here we are with the second post of Horror Month.  A few days ago I took on the lighter side of horror, but today it is going to be the darker side of it.  Believe it or not 16-bit games can still be creepy; it is not just flashy graphics that make a game scare.  Nor is it spring loaded monsters (though a lot of games seem to think so).  Horror is all about suspense, unease, knowing that the unknown is there, but cannot do anything about it, and so on.  Clock Tower for the SNES may not be the scariest of games, but it still is a solid horror game.

The title screen, just because it looks cool

Zombies Ate My Neighbors: In a time where a water gun was a good idea

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

So, what better way to start the blog off right than doing a theme for the month.  Yes, that is right I am going to start things off with a horror theme for the rest of the month.  Now, while we’re on this topic too, I will talk just a little bit about the schedule I want to take for posting.  For right now, I plan to do 2 posts a week on Tuesdays and Fridays.  This of course is subject to change, but as of now this is how it is.  So that about leaves 6 posts for the rest of the month in which I will keep it even and do 3 Video Game posts and 3 Anime ones.

So to start this off, I will talk about one of my favorite games, so much so I even put a picture of it in the intro post.  Yep, I’m going to start it off right with Zombies Ate My Neighbors!

Epic Intro Post, of Justice!

Sunday, October 12th, 2008

Personally I am not a huge fan of intro posts, more or less because I don’t know how to write them :P .  They just always seem so bland and all of that stuff, again because I can’t write.  So, yeah screw this, I could have this go on forever, but I’m not going to, how I want to do this is just give an awesome overview of what is going to go down on this blog, along with some background as well.

Exia, with an eye missing; awesome

I'm a mecha fan at heart

Might as well start with background, because it makes since…I think.  Anyway in a way -1 Credits (yes the s is official…I guess, bad grammar is cool, who knows it might change later) is the spiritual sequel (even though that is not the word) to G and the 1/2 Fraction.  G and the 1/2 was an anime blog I did back in the tail end of High School and my beginning of College.  Then I kind of just stopped updated and that was that, but then I don’t know if other people have got this; but even though you stopped blogging you want to start again.  So here I am writing a blog again, though now since I’m not going to be a 100% anime blog I can go and do different things and stuff.

One of my favorite games ever, Zombies Ate My Neighbors

Now using that last paragraph as a segway, I shall go into what I will talk about in -1 Credits.  As stated pretty much above there will be some talk about anime, though mostly just rants about series, along with other stuff here and there.  Along with Anime I will go into a lot about Video Games as well.  That is really the big difference for this blog is that I will talk about Video Games a lot more, from old to new; to even games I will be creating, since I am majoring in Video Game Programming, but let us save that for the about page I will need to do at some point.

Remember when Makoto was innocent? XD I'm just kidding with you

Really, that’s about it.  This is a Anime and Video Game blog, though I think it will lean a bit toward the Video Game side more, because I know more about Video Games since I have been with them longer than Anime.  Still that is more for the about page because this doesn’t need to get to long, I am doing nothing more than rambling of what will be posted at some point.  Even though I have just said that, lets linger here a bit long because I want to try to make it clear.  What I have learned from my last blog is that I don’t do episode by episode stuff very well and over the months, I have found them boring after time.  I want to take it as if there is something interesting I will write about it, I will not go episode by episode.  I would like to do maybe a half way point or just a one post for the show in general.  This is all about the anime part though, there is still that other side, the video game part.  This is a lot easier to go about, because you can’t really go episode by episode for a video game.  These will mostly be about games where they will mostly be on the old school side, because (though again more for the about page) I tend to enjoy those better.  Then I’m sure to have some random thoughts about video games in general as well and maybe some stuff with my own development as well.

One of my favorite RPGs ever; Rieko Kodama is a goddess

Just a few quick other things before this post can come to an end and the real work starts for the blog, also just because if I have these goals (I guess that is the word for them) typed somewhere they will be more likely to get done.  The big things as of me writing this is getting a nice theme, I would like to code by own, but we’ll see how that goes.  Also blogroll is important and such, and then I need to go around and start networking and stuff, along with getting back into aggregators.  So, now I’m about done with writing the draft now to put in some pictures so it isn’t as boring to read (because I have also learned, big blocks of text do not draw readers in well) ^^;
